Camp Site

Most summer food sites are designated as open to the community and therefore only need to count the number of eligible children who receive a reimbursable meal. Open sites do not need to collect any identification for the children and so there is no need to record meal counts by name.

However, the rules are different for residential and non-residential camps because meals can only be claimed for children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Checking this box will allow camp staff to check children in for meals during meal service time and the software will generate a claim for reimbursement that only includes the eligible children.

To turn on meal counts by name for a summer camp:

  • Click on Site Details from the main site dashboard
  • Check the box for Camp Site
  • Click Save
  • You will now see the option to add participants & rosters to the site

What types of summer sites need to take meal counts by name?

There are many different types of summer sites. Some of them will need to take meal counts by name and some can do a meal headcount. We recommend that the following types of sites turn on the "Camp Site" feature to allow meal counts by name:

  1. Closed Enrolled Site Not Located in a Low-Income Area
  2. Camp Sites
  3. Conditional Non-Congregate Sites

Below is a summary of the different summer food sites with those highlighted that we recommend use this Camp Site feature.
