Milk Audit Calculation Method

Milk audits are a comparison of the amount of milk purchased compared to the amount of milk that should have been served. This setting will determine if the amount of milk that should have been served is based on meal attendance or food production records.
  • Login as a Sponsor Admin
  • Click on the green tab for Setup
  • Click on Sponsor Setup
  • Scroll down to the checkboxes labeled Milk Audit Calculation Method
  • Make your selection
    • If you only select one method, then centers will only have one option for how to calculate milk usage
    • If you select both methods, then centers will have a choice of how to calculate milk usage, however only one milk audit can be created for a given claim month.

Most sponsors select "Calculated from Attendance". Using this method, we multiply the USDA meal pattern serving size for milk for each age range by the number of participants in each age range that ate a meal or a snack with milk. With the "Calculated from Attendance" method, we assume the center is serving exactly the same amounts as the meal pattern requirements.

If your sites do not follow the meal pattern requirements (for example, all children receive 1/2 pint of milk regardless of their age or the meal pattern requirement for the meal), then you should use the "Food Production Amounts" method. In this method, we ignore the meal pattern requirements and instead calculate milk usage by referencing the food production records.
